Pre-Trial Hearing
The Committee for Justice for Jason is currently mobilizing for Jason’s final pre-trial hearing Thursday, December 18th at 2 pm at the Northampton District Court. It has been 10 months since Jason was a victim of a racist hate crime. Now Jason is being further victimized by a racist prosecution. On Dec. 18th, Jason needs his supporters to continue to show their solidarity as he continues to endure such an agonizing experience. We need to maintain our presence in the public consciousness and in the District Attorney’s conscience.
We will be having a carpool leaving the UMass Amherst Student Union at 1:00 PM. If you do not need to carpool and want to meet us there, the address of the Northampton courthouse is 15 Gothic Street, Northampton, 01060.
If you need a ride or can drive, please send an email to justiceforjason@gmail.com

PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, think about donating goods or services: original artwork, handcrafts, antiques, rare books, musical performances, massage, lessons — anything someone might want to buy! Ask your friends and neighbors, ask retailers and vendors you know.

On February 3, 2008, two white men appeared at the window of the dormitory room of Jason Vassell, a black student who was majoring in Biology at UMass Amherst. The two men subjected Jason to racial invective and threats of violence. They kicked in his window and later gained access to an outer lobby of his dorm, where they attacked Jason, breaking his nose and causing a serious concussion. Injured and attempting to defend himself, Jason wounded his assailants with a small knife while the police were on the way to the site of the crime.
